I’ve been in this cycle of depression for ages, each time it comes around it gets worse and idk how to handle it. I’m too scared to ask for a therapist but also of what might happen as it gets worse. I was wondering if you could offer any advice?
First of all thank you for your question and please know that you’ve already smashed a huge step in recognising what you are going through and reaching out for help.
It is very common to feel scared to talk to a therapist, and therapists have been trained to recorgnise this and go at your own pace. If you did ever begin speaking to a therapist you could begin by mentioning that you’ve not been before because you’re scared. This should make you feel more confident that the therapist will look out extra carefully to make sure you’re feeling comfortable. Breaks are allowed during therapy sessions and if you don’t feel like the therapist is the right match for you, you have every right to ask to speak with another. If you haven’t already, you could try to talk to a close friend or family member about your concerns.

If you notice that it is getting worse, it is important to reach out to your trusted GP or to a therapist who will create a safe space for you to speak about what you are going through and help you cope.
